From a historical perspective, I think poetry has been a great form of documentation of the expressive commentary of the things and people of the time in which the poem was written. In general, I think poems are good for meditating on a thought or idea. Poetry allows a poet to use language in a creative and rhythmic way which permits the poet to express themselves or an idea they have in a creative way. They are like little mind puzzles and writing them forced the poet to think about what they are writing in new and creative ways that they may not have done so prior to writing the poem.
As far as writing the symbolism poem, I enjoyed the challenge and challenging it was, indeed. I’m still not entirely sure I understand what a symbolism poem is and how it works but I think I have an idea at the very least. Because of this, I’m not totally confident that I even wrote the poem correctly enough for it to classify as a symbolism poem. Nevertheless, I enjoyed writing it and I believe it gave me a good chance to practice incorporating imagery into my poetry because that’s something I struggle with at times when I write poems.
