The most important part about my process is probably the time when I do it. I seem to only work at night, no earlier than about 10:00pm or so. Another incredibly important part of my process is to write everything by hand including my brainstorming, any words or phrases or lines I want to incorporate (or don’t), and all my drafts of the poem. Every stage of every poem. To begin writing, I can usually write whenever prompted but I write my poems typically in one sitting. At least the first draft or two anyway. Also, another noteworthy part of my process would be that I need to be alone when writing or at least be in an environment with a comfortable atmosphere that allows for me to zone out and be in my own world. Most of my poems are based on very intense and deep feelings I have and because of this, they are typically free verse. I feel that rhyming schemes or specific structures restrict my ability to fully express the feelings I am trying to portray when I write of these intense feelings.
